Welcome to my Journey!

What makes January 1st so different than any of the other 364 days of the year? I mean it does start they year over again and we have to learn write a different year when filling out a check. So why is it that when a new year comes around most people come up with New Year’s Resolutions? About 10 years ago I decided to give up on those, I mean I didn’t give them up pre say; I just made the resolution to never make one again. So far I have kept it. Do you know that I have beaten the statics? The last statistic I heard was that 50% of those who make a resolution give up their resolutions after just three weeks into a new year and the number that ends the year keeping that resolution is very low. With those numbers, I think that I have done really well.
This year will be no different than last year and the year before that; I’m not going to make a resolution this year. So why am I writing a blog about it? What makes this year different? This year I have decided to start a journey and have also made the decision that January 1, 2010 is the day that I’m going to start this journey.

One of the only journeys I have been on in my life is when my mom and I were trying to make it to Lansing, MI from Cadillac. We had taken a way that we would normally not have gone. We had decided to go through Grand Rapids instead of down M-115. And as we got close to Grand Rapids there was a huge accident it was shutting down the road and backing up traffic for a couple of miles. We decided that it would be better to keep moving so we got off at a random exit and started to move in the direction that we needed to go, so we started the journey to Lansing. At some point my mom got turned around and took us an hour out of the way. We finally got to Lansing, but it took us 5 hours to make a 2.5 hour journey.

Isn’t that how most journeys go? You know where you want to go and you think you have a plan on how you are going to get there, but as the journey goes on you find out you are lost. In this type of journey I need to know where I want to be but I have a lot of opportunities to get there. Looking back on that trip with my mom I never would have traded anything we did, even though I was right about the fact we were heading in the wrong direction. I saw some old farm houses, old cemeteries and other things that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Although looking back I wish that we had spent some time exploring those cemeteries, which would have been fun.

Now if you have made it this far in my post I’m sure you want to know where this journey will take me. This journey is for me to fall in love with Jesus. More in love with him at the end of the year then I was at the beginning. And I have decided to do so in a couple of new ways. Now please remember that this is my plan, so it is subject to change.

The first way is going to be called my project 365. So that means that I will be trying to take a picture of one thing every day for the entire year. This picture will represent a way I saw Jesus for the day. I’m not sure where this is going to take me, but it sounds like a challenging fun thing for me to do. I think that I will have problems remembering to do this every day, but I’m going to try. So if I get 200 pictures then that is 200 more way to remind me of Jesus. But I’m setting the goal at 365 with journaling.

The second way is to read through the Bible. Now this part of the journey is a little lofty for me, but I’m going to try. I think that if I make it half way through the Bible I will be doing good. But I’m going to shoot for the entire Bible. I’m using one of the reading plans that Bible Gateway offers. They will send it right to my email so that will be nice. I can

The third way is to be doing corporate Bible Study. This will happen mainly with WOW. WOW is taking on Beth Moore’s Psalms of Assent this session and so that will be one of them.

For summer I am going to do the Bible Study “Believing God” so I’m kind of excited about that. Who am I kidding, I’m really excited. I have a couple of girlfriends that are going to do it with me so that makes it even better. If anyone want to join us just let me know.

I know that Believing God is going to have me memorizing scriptures so I’m not going to jump into anything right now with that.

This summer I’m leading the Mission trip again. I’m so excited! I’m praying for a fresh experience and for me to see Jesus in a different way. So we will see. I have a feeling that this will be an experience and I’m ready for it.

I hope that you are ready to come along this journey with me.

Kandi, I know what you mean about fighitng for someone who can't/won't fight for themselves. My brother volenteered to go to Iraq in August/September. I mean he is not for sure going YET but they need 30 people.

I so love the idea of the photo everyday too. I may have to borrow that one. I am starting to read the Bible this year and really want to finish. I am using one of Roger's, it's the chronological one. Hopefully it will make more sense to me. May God hear our wishes.
